The UK Government has appointed Nicholas Saphir as the Modern Chair of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board ( AHDB ) with effect from 1 April 2025 for a three - year full term .

Mr Saphir will take over the character with AHDB from Sir Peter Kendall who completes his 2nd terminal figure in office at the end of March .

This is a Ministerial appointment , made by the Secretary of State for the Department for Environment , Food and Rural Affairs ( Defra ) , which has been approved by Ministers in the Scottish Government and Welsh Government and Northern Ireland Executive .

Nicholas Saphir has a wide background in factory farm and gardening , having build a public company farming , processing and trading yield and veggie in the UK , Europe , Southern Africa and South America . His dairy farm experience include spending the last 18 years build the Organic Milk Producers ' Cooperative ( Omsco ) into becoming   the world ’s second largest dedicated organic milk conjunctive with exports of cheeseflower , butter and baby convention grad milk powders to the USA , EU and Australasia . He also has a retentive and successful record of chairing industry and government bodies in the food and farming sphere , include being the chairman of the Central Council for Agricultural and Horticultural Cooperation , founder chair of Food from Britain , chair of the Fresh Produce Consortium and chairman of the Agricultural Forum .

This appointment is govern by the Cabinet Office ’s Governance Code on Public Appointments , and is made on virtue . In accordance with the original Nolan recommendations , there is a prerequisite for appointee ’ political natural process ( if any declare ) to be made public . As part of the appointment process the appointee did not hold any political activity .

Mr Saphir will receive a non - pensionable pay of £ 55,000 per annum , based on a minimum metre dedication of 104 daylight per yr . Reasonable travel disbursal are also compensate .
