My friend Robin shared a twosome of links on dwarfing a papaya :
“ The experimentation was share by Singapore found gardener , Mohd . Noor , who need to raise and harvest papayas on a short industrial plant .
This was his amazing result after 2 long time of test and errors – a papaya plant that could be grown in containers and have fruits beneath his shoulder ’s altitude . ”

See here forhow it is done .
And here is a mad video recording on the process :
The ingenuity of adult male is awe-inspiring .
If you do n’t have a gnome papaya diverseness , why not give this a try ?
Dwarfing Through Planting Deeply
I have done an experimentation of my own with dwarfing a papaya Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree . First , I grew a papaya seedling in a large potentiometer until it was 6′ tall . It was a female , which was evidenced by the flower , so I knew it was break to fruit . Then I used a post - hole shovel to dig a golf hole 4′ deep in my North Florida backbone . Then I take in the papaya out of the potty and broke up the ascendent ball a snatch so the tree diagram would fit out into its new planting yap and carefully lowered it down into the pit .
I fill it in . Now I had a papaya tree that was maybe 2′ tall . It fruited well at about 4′ or so .
This was just a crazy thought I had when I was model on the back porch cause a cocktail with my wife . It seemed like a good idea at the sentence . After plant , I take that papaia are subject to beginning rot and should never be planted deeper than where they were found in the batch .
That was n’t a problem , however . Just because the “ official literature ” say you ca n’t do something , it does n’t entail you REALLY ca n’t do something . In the case of my deeply planted papaya , it worked just fine . In some soils , it might not , but in my Baroness Dudevant , the tree did great . I assume it just rooted out of the existing trunk . It surely did n’t die , and it was very easy to harvest and protect through frosts .
Many of us do n’t have access to dwarf papaya source and have to implant the seeds we can find . If you need to keep your papaya tree diagram in pots or spring up them in a colder clime where a giant Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree becomes a job – well – why not see if you’re able to shadow ’em ? commence papaia seedlings is well-fixed . Start a bunch of tree diagram and see what method acting play for you !
