Summer survivors, Zanthan on tour
Here ’s a Halloween treat !
My ‘ Patrick ’ genus Abutilon has celebrated lots of “ holidays ” in its first year , rarely out of bloom . It grow so fast that I had to move it . After a brief whine , it accepted its line of work to fill this blank space . drouth and rut did n’t faze it ( though I put a dumb hose on it now & then ) , so I think it ’ll be a favorite resort by next Halloween . Oh , it gets morning sun , afternoon shadiness .
On calendar upshot , for the first meter in CTG ’s account , we tap a garden on April Fool ’s to publicize on Halloween ! The actual delicacy , and no fooling , is that we visitZanthan Gardensin her early spring garden to incite a few idea for your fall planting scamper . Most pregnant is her eloquent philosophy of gardens and how she applied it to hers . ( These images captured from the video recording ) .

As one of the first garden bloggers in the res publica , Melissa spread out up a whole raw conversation among nurseryman , not just from around the nation , but from the other side of town . An claim nurseryman , she gives accurate detail about planting , flush times , source sizes , and specimen drug abuse .
As a originative , queer gardener , she shares her investigations , unafraid to admit failure as well as winner . She also preserve a short thumb on the hosepipe . No radical water beak at Zanthan Gardens !
To go along with our problematic plants composition , Tom fall in Tricia Martin fromForever Gardensfor her short list of industrial plant that survive on their own . Tricia keel off the lean right aside : the plant in her garden that invite goodbye to mammy and dad when she and hubby Jon opened their baby’s room seven years ago . In their dedication to colligate you to great flora for not - so - great conditions and ground , their brood was on their own . Instead of suffering separation anxiety , their plants partied down !

One is thryallis ( Galphimia gracilis ) . Mine is in former photinia - ville , where its job is to veil the air conditioner and shade it a bit . I lie with this fast - growing , ruffianly , and pretty shrub .
Nearby is a cenizo , another one on Tricia ’s list . Mine is ‘ Silverado , ’ a white - blooming interlingual rendition . Behind them are Iceberg and Mrs. Oakley Fisher rose , amazingly drought - tough too .
Get Tricia ’s terminated leaning and extended particular about each plant on CTG ’s WWW situation , including flora we did n’t have time to mention .

For more problematic plant ideas , see what outlast drought inGetting strand ’s garden .
I ’d love to have your leaning of tough - as - nails plant ! We ’ll put them on CTG ’s site to attend to fellow piss - saver .
One annotation : when moving drouth - tough plant , as I just did with myPlumbago scandens , it does n’t hurt to give them a bit of shade . It ’s cooler , but afternoon sun wilts them somewhat fast . Here ’s my quickie version until their roots catch up a bit .

If you miss the broadcast , watch Melissa ’s garden , Tricia ’s rugged plants , Daphne ’s tips on when to prune oaks , and how Trisha Shirey forces bulbs onKLRU.TVor on iTunes . And if you ’re in Oklahoma , starting November 3 , you could watch us onKRSC !
Until next workweek , Linda
