Six on Saturday. Fleeting Beauties.
When I did my Top Ten April Blooms post several bloggers courteously suggested that I ca n’t count . So as I join in withSix On Saturdaythis week I will keep careful counting . This first week of May we have to start with bloom .
1 Blossom . There seems to be lots of beautiful apple blossom this yr . I go for it ’s not too cold for the bee .
Apple Blossom

Apple Blossom
Even pretty than orchard apple tree blossom are the loving cup -shaped peak of the quince Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree , Cydoniaoblonga . They are white just light ting with pink . They have lilac stamen and are fragrant . I grow the variety holler ‘ Vranja ’ . Last year I had an abundance of golden fruit .

I used to have a lovely little crab Malus pumila tree calledMalus transitoria . It had dainty white blossom and yield which bet like a profusion of little yellow astragal . The tree was too big to take with me when I move , but I am delighted that the tree I grew from cum bend out be very similar to its parent .

Can I countExochorda x macrantha‘The Bride ’ as blossom ? It is covered with pristine snowy blooms , what a shame they do n’t last longer .

Now there might have been four pictures but it is all bloom so it count as one . Anyway , that ’s how I weigh it . So now I will move on to bit two .
2.Roses . I have two roses which always blossom in April . As I was decease away , I wrote my Top Ten April Bloom post in the first half of April so these two did n’t get featured . They are still look adorable . First is the primrose yellow ‘ Canary Bird ’ which makes a large spread bush .
Rosa xanthina‘Canary Bird ’

The 2nd , ‘ Helen Knight ’ is deeper lily-livered , rather like extra rich butter from Jersey cows . The flowers are slightly larger .

3.Peonies . My first tree diagram peony is coming into bloom , it has huge easy pink flowers .

Paeonia suffriticosa . Tree Peony .
I went all the direction to the Gargano in Puglia , Italy go for to findPaeonia masculagrowing in the forest . Meanwhile back in my own garden it was blooming away and this is the last flower , at least I did n’t miss every bloom . How deplorable that some of the most exciting flowers are so fugitive . I seem to have missed the yellowPaeonia mlokosewitschii,‘Molly the Witch ’ whole .

4Camassias . Another really fleeting flower is the starry dismal Camassia . One clump ofCamassialeichtliniibloomed whilst I was away and I miss it wholly . But this dark aristocratical one , Camassia cusickiiblooms slimly later and is still count proficient .

5Dwarf Irises . Irises are another brief floral delight . I make out fiddling Iris pumilabut I like it would hang around for longer .

Now I have seen them growing in meadows in the Gargano peninsula , Puglia I want to seek outIris bicapitataandIris pseudopumilaand develop them en masse . There were tremendous variations butChristinaand I voted these next two our favourites .

6.Gladiolus tristis . It is hard to prefer turn six because so far I have not featured any tulips this twelvemonth which is a sad deletion . And in the greenhouseGeranium maderenseis in full glorious blooming . But I have decided to go with the modest smasher of South AfricanGladiolus tristis . What a strange name for it , as there is nothing deplorable about this beautiful bloom . It must be the earlier gladiolus to blossom . It is difficult to imagine anything further aside from Dame Edna Evarage ’s outsize monstrosities than this delicate efflorescence . It is the palest lemon with green chevron . And as if this was n’t enough it is fragrant . I have show that it is not reliably brave but mine has lived outside for three year now .

I have some really lovely epimediums that I would make love to share with you but I ca n’t see anyway to sneak them in and I ’m get a bit sore about people telling me that I ca n’t count . So there we have mySix on Saturday . Many thanks toThe Propagatorfor hosting this meme . It is the second anniversary and an ever- increasing circle of people round the world are apportion six thing each Saturday . So a celebration is in ordering . It is always a lot of fun , so do join in .

So it appears that we ’re entering what I think of as peak peony envy period . I shall go alfresco momentarily to rag my 2 pitiful specimens for their failures . I ’m very impressed by your Gladiolus too .
