I ’m always on the feel out for newcraft projectsthat can well replicate ashandmade gifts for friends and family . While sifting through my collection of vintage craft magazine , I came across the idea of a scented tea trivet . How skillful it would be to sit down for tea leaf , and have the heat of the teapot release the odor of Ceylon cinnamon or herbs ? What a unique way to add extra fragrance to the tea - drinking experience !

This is a pretty simple sewing project , but a sewing machine is definitely necessary . I always like to make a ‘ practice ’ one first ( using scrap fabric ) so that I can ferment out any kinks in my summons without using up my favorite cloth . How to make this herb scented tea trivet that warms and releases fresh scented herbs like cinnamon, mint, or lavender!

Tools :

swerve 2 foursquare from your fabric . I cut mine to be 8 ” x 8 ” but you’re able to make your tea   trivet   any size you like . For this project I chose to use vintage fabric I ’ve had in my stash for years paired with some yellow cotton I hand - dye using turmeric . Place one square , correct side face down . Then rest your batten over the top and disperse with herb . I wanted a fall fragrance so I chose to use cinnamon , orange peel , clove tree , and fennel . I originally just broke up the spices with my hands and disperse them on , BUT while sewing my needle strike a hard piece of clove and break , so I would definitely urge grind up any large herbs / spicery using a mortar & pestle beforehand .

Take the second foursquare and use a rule and pencil to mark templet to follow when you start sewing . I lightly drew line diagonally ( quoin to tree like an X ) and perpendicular ( middle to middle like a + ) .Place marked satisfying ( correct side face up ) on top of the batten and herbs . Pin in position .
