Last years carrots - Danvers and Cosmic Purple ( shown with beet )
Daucus carota sativa I find can be easy or challenging and I ’m not always indisputable why . Maybe because they know they are not one of my favorite crops to eat . I planted seeds last month outside and scarce any have germinated . I planted Danvers and Cosmic Purple kind . So I am going to reseed some of them tomorrow . Some years I get keen germination and other days hardly any .
So here ’s what I may have done wrongfulness and my excuses ( all excuse done in whiney voice ):

1 . I suppose I establish too early . The dirt was likely too cold and they are either just sitting there wait for the ground to warm or they ’ve rotted and I need to replant . I just read that carrot require the temperatue to be at LEAST 55 ° F to germinate and I did n’t take the temperature . I wager it was colder . ( But I could n’t find my compost thermometer … )
2 . I think some of my seeds are too old . I have several new packets this yr but some of my packets are old . I need to discipline the particular date boss on the packet and project out any that are over 2 long time previous . We should do this for any of our germ . ( But I need fresh reading spectacles to see the petite stamped appointment … )
3 . cultivated carrot are ponderous feeders and require fresh amendment each class which I did n’t do when I planted the seminal fluid . I ’m not sure that count since they did n’t germinate anyway . ( But I ’m not really into them . I ’m self sabotaging … )
4 . I may not have watered enough . I water every other twenty-four hours but the soil did seem pretty juiceless whenever I rewatered it . Watering should be consistent to keep land EVENLY moist . ( But it was dusty and impractical outside … )
5 . perchance the lapin use up some of the teeny sprouts . I did n’t have it cover with course screening and the rabbits seem peculiarly hungry this year , specially since my dog Sage is no longer with me to keep them by . ( But I could n’t be bothered to dig out the row cover from the garden shed and I demand a new spread dog or cat to patrol … )
As you’re able to see , I did n’t do anything correct . Anyone can have trouble if we do n’t pay attention to details . Sigh ! I think I ’ll plant some shallots ( which I love ) where some of the carrots did n’t come up and I will replant some of the carrot as well , just not as many . Which brings up a full point - don’t works vegetables you do n’t really like to eat that much or plant less . Lesson memorize .. What was I thinking ? !
