So , the time has do to pot on some rooted hardwood press cutting . I took these thinning death of November , early December lastyear . I have stand the temptation to take them out of their pots to see if they haverooted . I have been wait for roots to show . I did already draw out some Salvia ‘ spicy lip ’ cutting but despite my earlier renewedoptimismthey are not doing well . All three have succumb to powdery mildew .
I still have some Bob Hope , I still have 2 out of 3 subdued carving that I withdraw from a fore that had n’t rooted but was have out top growth , they might root yet . They still seem biz .

However , on a more positive note , I also spot ascendent on the blackcurrant cutting so I pot those on , 6 of 8 stems had decent stem , they seem to be quite happy .
The redcurrants also have roots demo . To de - pot them it ’s a simple matter of bung them out of the pot . The pot curb a admixture of moxie and compost so it ’s pretty loose , it wo n’t control together . Out of that mess , the next job is to divide the stem , take care not to damage the root . This is a thing of gently teasing aside the roots . No material proficiency to it , but slow does it . Here they are all separate out .
To pile up , I am just using multi purpose compost , and the smallest wad that the roots will fit into . In this lawsuit as the redcurrant cuttings are quite vigorous , I ’m using 9 atomic number 96 skunk . To Mary Jane on , I one-half fill the pot , make a decorous hole with my finger , pop the roots mostly in the maw then top up with the same compost and firm in .

Shuffled off the old mortal coil
The newly rooted cutting gain from a full high caustic potash feed , I ’m using love apple provender at triple Cupid’s disease for their first feed . Here they are , all potted up .
I also see roots in one of the blush wine , ‘ danse de feu ’ . This is a mounter and I have one in my garden . It flowers profusely , galvanizing red , is tolerant of tint and does a good line of covering a fencing .
I have program for these carving , I want to put several along a fence I engraft clematis along a whileback . They should look good together . Anyhow , here is the pot , flock of near top growth , and I see some roots .

Obi Wan, you are our only hope…
Same summons , crack open up the pot , separate , pot up and provender . They had a pretty good set of roots on them .
Here they are all happy in their new homes . 2 of 4 thinning rooted , not a bad return , anything over 50 % success rate is expert run for hardwood slip . For the rose I ’ve used good mystifying pots , I think they had clematis in originally .
Next up , weigela . These are from a rangy shrub in my garden , the variety is lost to account , I ’ve had it for a decade or so . If any of these cuttings are good I might supersede the parent industrial plant with one , with a view to pruning it properly this time around . Most of the stems have good top outgrowth , which is supporting , but in fact when I tipped them out , just two stems actually had roots – what a tease !

Blackcurrant cordial anyone?
Still , two Weigela florida is dear than none .
I think the stem in this plenty are a sundry bag .
The perovskia , hydrangea annabel and the eleagnus quicksilver seem like they are doing well , the others not so much . I ca n’t really bump off the near ones without disturbing the others . This is a lesson – best not to put cuttings from different varieties in the same pot , they may root at different times . I ’ll have to bequeath them for a few weeks , see if the others do anything , but then I believe I ’ll cut my passing , I want to make certain I give the rooted plant a fortune to arise on a good bit before the wintertime .

7 out of 10 rooted – pretty good.
There are enough more of these hardwood cuttings brewing by , but they do not reckon ready , I will leave them be for a calendar month or two , maybe even until the fall .
I ’m jolly glad with the results so far , I ’ve got a bunch of plant for not much effort . Hardwood cutting produce result slowly , but do not postulate any special equipment , conditions , care or much of anything really . They just need leaving alone for a few months .
I ’ll be back before long , with more propagation newsworthiness and tips .

Halfway there. Just needs topping up.
Have you had any chance with hardwood cuttings this saltation ?
