I ’m Lizzi , and I live in Walla Walla , Washington . We moved here 2½ years ago from Portland , Oregon , where I had been gardening for 20 years . While my planting geographical zone did n’t vary too much , from 8b to 7a , it ’s enough colder and drying agent here that many of my favorites would n’t make it . I made lots of mistakes in my first garden , and while it was lush , it was chaotic . This time around I was going to be after better , focalize on a limited palette ofdrought - tolerant plants , foliage over flowers , but still enough flowers to attractpollinators . The backyard was jolly much a clean ticket , with the exception of mature cedars in the back corner and a couplecrabapplesand a maple along the back fence . Our first summertime we removed quite a bit of the yard to amplify the garden beds and planted two tree — a quince and a weeping livid pine — but that was about it . I want to memorize what boom here by pay attending to other the great unwashed ’s gardens on my daybreak runnel . Last springtime I implemented the plan I had imagined over the wintertime , and over the course of the summertime I saw what worked and what did n’t . ( Only one affair did n’t hold up the heat dome ! ) . This twelvemonth I did some rearranging , added a few more plant , and am savour the early season show . I ca n’t wait to see it in the stature of summer .
