With each passing year, this Washington garden fills with more fabulous flowers, foliage, and fragrance
Happy Monday , GPODers !
There are many gardens we ’ve been relish on the blog for years now , and it ’s always incredible to see the changes that occur from season to time of year and year to year . Some of these gardens are relatively new , like this colourful Shangri-la Lizzi Gualtieri has create in Walla Walla , Washington , which can make the transformations even more plain and exciting . Lizzi first shared her garden in 2022 after only being at the property for two and a one-half long time ( Lizzi ’s Walla Walla Garden ) . Since then , we ’ve gotten a two - year update and were treat to a hitch of the front - yard vegetable garden build in 2020 ( Walla Walla Backyard Two Years by and by , andLizzi ’s Front Yard Veggie Garden in Washington ) . Today she is back to share her vivacious garden in spring as it continues to grow and evolve .
After a very mild winter , we ’ve had a beautiful spring show this year in Walla Walla , Washington ( Zone 7a ) . I wish I could tie aroma to the photos because stepping out my back door I smell the wistaria , laurel , lilac , and daphne in one glorious scent ! The garden is only 4 eld old but some of the flowering tree and shrubs were here when we go in . There ’s always something Modern perish in and weed survive away ! I ’m hoping this yr that the backyard will feel more established and a footling more like a green sanctuary .

This lustrous orangey - pink azalea was one of the survive shrub , so I do n’t make out its variety show .
The ‘ Alexandria ’ brunnera(Brunnera‘Alexandria ’ , Zones 4–9 ) is unexampled this year , with a hosta and ostrich fern(Matteuccia struthiopteris , Zones 3–7 ) behind it .
Northern Exposure ™ Purple heuchera(Heuchera × ‘ TNHEUNEP ’ , Zones 3–10)andlamiumline the bound of a created dry streambed that is currently full of crabapple peak .

‘ Quicksilver ’ hebe(Hebe pimeleoides‘Quicksilver ’ , Zones 7–9)is borderline here , but I have it imbed in a relatively protected sphere with the ‘ Golden Mop ’ cypress(Chamaecyparispisifera‘Golden Mop ’ , Zones 4–8).Black mondo grass(Ophiopogonplaniscapus ‘ Nigrescens ’ , Zones 5–10)and giant ‘ Ambassador ’ alliums(Allium‘Ambassador ’ , zone 4–8)are also in the photo .
Another view of the backyard with a dwarf blue spruce in the foreground . I screw thevariegated iris(Iris pallida‘Variegata ’ , Zones 3–9)for their foliage and the awesome scent of their flowers . Behind them is a quince Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree that , despite its small size of it , is covered in blossoms and will hopefully produce about half a XII expectant quince in the fall . The weeping white pine(Pinusstrobus‘Pendula ’ , Zones 3–8)in the back is an investiture for the time to come .
The Schipka cherry laurel(Prunuslaurocerasus ‘ Schipkaensis ’ , zona 6–9 ) is another plant that can be marginal if not planted in a protected spot , but it ’s slap-up for screening between house . It ’s planted in front of an ancient white lilac(Syringavulgarisvar.alba , geographical zone 3–7 ) .

This photo does n’t really do Justice Department to the superb color of our jumbo blood-red beech Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree . The leaves emerge in springtime an acute flaming orange tree and darken to burgundy by summertime . There is a tears cherry and another ancient purplish lilac in the foreground .
The wistaria draping over the back logic gate was here when we displace in , so I do n’t know its variety . It redact on a self-aggrandising show in spring before leafing out but blossom continually until autumn with shorter flower clusters .
The labrador violets(Viola labradorica , Zones 3–8)and thecreeping jenny(Lysimachia nummularia , Zones 4–8)were traveler in a potted Japanese maple that we brought with us when we impress here a footling over five class ago . They ’ve since naturalized all over the suspect portion of the pace , and I just love the color combination .

Thank you so much for sharing another incredible garden update , Lizzi ! It has been amazing to find the evolution of your space in the few short yr you ’ve been contributing . I trust we get to bask your beautiful garden as it continues to transform !
