Celebrating the season

Today we ’re in Nella ’s Michigan garden .

Usually myspring gardenis my deary . It ’s a lovely welcome to the new horticulture time of year after a dusty , hoar Michigan wintertime . This year I was rewarded with lush , full , late summer bloomsafter a summer so dry that we only foreshorten the lawn once in the month ofJune . I garden in a space that was totally shaded by overgrown trees when I first bought the sign of the zodiac . Twenty - seven years and 15 fewer tree later on , I have mostly fond shade . I retired last June , so this was my first gardening season when I could weave out to the garden at sunrise and putz around until mid - morning most days .

I went crazy onpotsthis year ! The final count on August 1 , front and back , was 26 ! That ’s a disk for me . Admittedly , some I bought specifically tofill in gapsbefore this year ’s neighborhood garden walk . Some are my every - year standard . Some I bought at the last of the season because I could n’t jib the sale damage . Would I do it again ? peradventure , but not all at once . It was a gradual matter as I saw a need for apotor I had plants but no situation for them in a bed .
