Celebrating Thanksgiving At The Farm – 2018
For Mary and I , Thanksgiving has always been our absolute favorite holiday of the year .
It is simple . It is pure . And above all else , it has always and will always rest about family .
There are no expectations . No pressure sensation . And no worries about running around at the last minute to pluck out the “ right ” gift .

We smoked our turkey this year for our feast. One delicious way to make a turkey!
Thanksgiving is simply an amazing time to get together and enjoy syndicate , Friend , conversation , and great food . And a fourth dimension to be grateful for so many fantastic things .
We smoked our turkey this year for our banquet . One delightful mode to make a joker !
We actually got a jump on our Thanksgiving celebration last weekend with a get - together at the farm with our four kids and a few extended family .

As we celebrated with a wonderful meal and the loud crestless wave of conversation – it made the ambition of the farm come alive all over again .
It made both of us think back to a metre when the farm was just in its infancy . We longingly dream of someday being able to host a immense Thanksgiving with both of our gallop families as well .
It was 5 age ago today that we penned an article about that dreaming . It was all based on hop to have enough completed at the farm that by 2020 – we could host the boastful event .

Family, food – and great conversation are staples in our house for Thanksgiving
kin , food – and great conversation are staples in our house for Thanksgiving
And as we read back through that foresighted ago article , it made us gain how amazing this journeying has been , and how far we have arrive from those early days . And – how 2020 will indeed be able to happen !
Back then in 2013 , all that stand on the kingdom was a volaille coop , a garden , a few year - old yield trees , and a whole destiny of open space and big dreams . Like the ambition of having a pocket-sized house .

It was really neat to read back and see what we thought and hoped for that Thanksgiving . We think we would share it again today .
Today , we are croak to allow ourselves to dream a minuscule into the future . To think about hosting one big gathering of our families for a future extra Thanksgiving Dinner at the Farm .
Although we now grow quite a bit of our own food at the farm , it will still be a few years before some of the tenacious - term plantings like the apple and cerise trees begin bearing ample production . And who roll in the hay how long it will take our newly planted grapes to grow to make a bottle of vino or two .

Our kids have certainly grown up! It was great to have them at the farm along with their significant others.
Our kids have for certain spring up up ! It was enceinte to have them at the farm along with their significant others .
So with that in psyche – we picked 2020 as the dream year to perhaps host a big Thanksgiving Dinner at the farm .
And hopefully this dream can become a realism . After all – it was n’t that long ago – in fact just 3 poor years ago ( 2010 ) , that Mary and I stood at the top of an overgrown pitcher’s mound and dreamed .

We dreamed of having a few chickens , a barn and a garden that could provide us refreshing solid food .
With a little oeuvre , raw muscle , and the loss of blood now and then , that dream has come true . So why not dream a small more ?
It truly is a completely different feeling to sit down to a repast that comes from what you have grown or get up . Everything savour fresher , more utter , and of trend , the gratification of knowing exactly where our food came from .

Homemade apple pie from home-grown apples!
Homemade Malus pumila Proto-Indo European from house - grown apples !
It also tastes comfortably knowing of the work that move into growing it .
From the early outflow planting solar day , to nurturing the crop through the summer months . And then , to the gallant moment of harvesting .

host a Brobdingnagian celebration Thanksgiving Feast with family and acquaintance will give us the ultimate prospect to partake it all with friends in family . And after all , is n’t that where the custom of Thanksgiving originated from ?
So hopefully , by 2020 , with a little luck and good fortune , we will be capable to dish the first time of origin or two of home - made vino .
perchance the apple and cherry red Tree , along with the pumpkins from that year ’s garden will avail to produce the pies for dessert . And perhaps we can set up a banquet of gullible beans , corn , potatoes , carrot , Allium cepa , refreshed herbs and more from the garden .

The farm as it looked in 2010.
The farm as it calculate in 2010 .
Who experience – perhaps we might even have our piffling pipe dream house on the property by then ?
But more than anything – we can not look for that day to share the fruit of our dreams and labor with our fellowship .

I am sure that over the next 7 geezerhood , we will have many senior high school and lows in the continued edifice of the farm . But we also get it on that nothing can ever give up the power of dream . Ca n’t wait to see what 2020 brings !
Mary and I both wish everyone a felicitous and wonderful Thanksgiving season ! Oh , and if you are reading this and are part of our extended house – conceive this an invitation for 2020 . Mary and Jim
