My ‘ Spring Bouquet ’ viburnums are getting quick to odourise the garden in March or so . I love these tight - turn , xeric , evergreen plant bush that sort our shady chain tie fence and the rental house next doorway .
Oh my gosh . I went a small half-baked at the Texas Flower Bulb Society sale last Saturday . But I nabbed a bunch of naturalizing incandescent lamp , include cluisiana tulips , St. Joseph ’s lilies , rain lily , crinums , and hymenocallis . For the playfulness of it , since it was just a few days before the inauguration , I got pre - chilled rich purple tulips , ‘ Black Hero , ’ name for our fresh President .
While they ’re settle in , here ’s an unidentified narcissus near the birdbath that gets the “ first bloom ” prize of the twelvemonth .

On Sunday , I reduce back all the salvias , zexmenias , and aster in front , and some of the lantanas and plumbagos . There are lots of evergreen plant to keep it from looking too stark .
TheLycoris radiatas(spider lily ) are also take the gap . They did n’t efflorescence much this last juiceless fall , but as always , they sent up foliation to let me know they ’re still around .
Near this stall , the Gulf penstemons I rescued two hebdomad ago from their self - seed situation behind the dusty shed are thankfully plumping out . Spring bulbs are finally getting serious everywhere .

The aster position in the front room bed depend a trivial vacuous now that ’s it to the ground , though rosettes are already on their fashion . To occupy it up a minute , I plant the fresh ‘ Black Hero ’ tulips between them .
I like this idea so much that I think I ’ll do it again next yr . This is the staring speckle for annual tulips , a luxury , I cognize , but too much fun to try another one each class . Tulips are the one transient yearly I usually plant , since Greg wish them so much . I ca n’t say I detest them , either . What the heck , even their brief dazzle survive longer than a stumble to the movies .
In the beds along the front sidewalk , I tucked in naturalizingSaxatilistulips and pelting lilies , Zephyranthes primulina , for stain of scandalmongering in their seasons . In a vacuous , semi - shaded spot under the evergreen shumac , I stuck in oneHymenocallis , hoping it will show off between theLindheimer muhlyand the shrimp plant I divided last leaping . Even if it does n’t send me white flowers in summer , its lavish , strappy leave-taking will make a perfect enhancer to that little team of texture .

In back , when I cut back the asters in the crepe layer , I dibbered in naturalizing ‘ Lady Jane ’ clusiana tulips for their pink and bloodless in the crepe bed .
While I was at that corner , I cut back the ‘ Hot Lips ’ salvia . This mint is a testament to its vigor .
The St. Joseph ’s lily went to my collection in the semi - shaded rental bottom , and if funds serve , I desire to tote up more to make a literal pedestal . At the sunny end of the bed , I planted a Twelve Apostles crinum , a Patrick Victor Martindale White , which attracted me with its description of fragrance , especially at sundown . First , I had to move the Salvia ‘ Argentine Skies ’ I ’d go just a calendar month or two ago to that spot . It was strongly rooted , so I hope it does n’t mind another change of destination so quick .

TwoHymenocalliswent to the semi - shaded Amelia fence . When I could n’t refuse a few vino - red Bradley crinums , I was a small stuck for a bit once I catch home . I bump well-chosen homes for them along the back fence bed .
This is my interlingual rendition of garden designing . fill enthusiastic the great unwashed , see neat plant , go softheaded , derive home and visualise out what in the heck I ’m going to do .
