Transforming a narrow garden space
Today we ’re off to Canada to visit with Bas Suharto .
I built this garden for Ms. Jeanette in Orleans , Ontario . It begin July 5 , 2023 , from a unproblematic sketch . I discussed with her and proposed the layout on the sketch . The garden is part of the back patio and is 45 groundwork by 8 foot . At the very back of the attribute there is a 45 - foot - long cedarhedge . The existing ground isclay soil .
In searching for the plants at various places , sometimes I retrieve more interesting ones to substitute what I had nominate on the sketch , or some plant were not useable at the localgarden centersor nursery , so I made some changes at the garden .

This is the beginning of the workplace , day 1 . I added garden soil and mushroomcompostover the existing scraggy Lucius DuBignon Clay . I deflect using harmful product tokill the weeds . One of Jeanette ’s family members helped me birth the filth and river Stone to the front house .
This is the first solar day of planting , when I put in boxwoods(Buxussp . , Zones 5–9),bigleaf hydrangeas(Hydrangea macrophylla , Zones 5–9 ) , ‘ Sum and Substance’hostas(Hosta‘Sum and Substance ’ , Zones 3–8 ) , and some annual geraniums(Pelargoniumhybrids , zone 9–11 or as annuals ) .
Jeanette likes the white-hot flowers of daisies(Leucanthemum× superbum , Zones 5–9 ) , so I imbed a row of them along with two Snow Fountains weeping cherries(Prunus‘Snofozam ’ , Zones 4–8 ) on the left over side and two dwarf Korean lilac standards(Syringameyeri‘Palibin ’ , Zones 3–8 ) .

Along the mete of the terrace , I planted hybridroses‘Grande Amore ’ and ‘ Peggy Rockeffeler ’ . They can develop in Zone 5a of Orleans , Ontario .
I made a “ river ” of stone to bring rainwater from the roof to the fencing and on to the municipal pelting drainage . I then institute a words of Hakone grasses(Hakonechloamacra‘All Gold ’ , Zones 5–9 ) to spring up over and hide out the plastic edging along the side of the gravel .
Next , I installed concretestepping gemstone , and along the right border I planted the ornamental grassPanicumvirgatum‘Shenandoah ’ ( Zones 3–9 ) .

It took me 11 days to finish the garden . Here is a view of it from the balcony of the star sign .
pinkish anemone(Anemonehupehensis , zone 4–8 ) and one-year geranium
