kudos to Gordon Ballard ( skigordo ) of Buffalo , New York State for his win entry in the July Photo Challenge : Key West Meets Buffalo , NY .

We ask Gordon to tell us a little about his garden :

“ I ’ve been seriously garden for the retiring 15 years – since I have owned my home – but I used to putter with my grandparent when I was unseasoned .

We consistently have passers - by and visitors who tell us ours is the most beautiful garden they have ever see , which certainly nominate us feel very dependable !

The Key West theme Tiki Bar bodily structure estimation come up as an “ epiphany ” after a devasting October Storm in 2006 that destroy my neighbour ’s Tree and my freestanding aluminum entrepot - bought summerhouse ( see photos ) . I make up one’s mind to build a structure that would allow the garden to pour forth into it while allowing the bar to shed into the garden .

I build a scale model of the structure in my basement using remnant wood from my kitchen remodel . Then I commissioned it to a friend ’s company , which has a great reputation for building garden hardscapes .

The structure furnish us with a much needed lasting domain for harbour guests and we do have quite frequent party to divvy up our garden . It also put up us with man - made shade . Our yard used to be quite funny , with only 25 % Sunday , but now is look at full Dominicus .

I have been continuously adding more maritime - theme decorations , as well as other found point , to decorate the bar area . Always look for more ! ”
