These photos will have you looking at ferns in a new way
Laura Snyder , in Ottawa , Ontario , sent in some attractively artistic photos from her garden for us to enjoy :
I have just started doing garden criminal maintenance this past year after spending the past five twelvemonth catch to know our four - acre belongings and garden beds . These images are from the fern , birch rod , and lily of the valley patch out by the side door . The chicken hencoop is just beyond this , and the hens love scratching around in this spot .
Happy 2019 to you !

Laura caption this picture , “ – 26 at my threshold . ” ( That ’s – 14 ° F for those of us in the States . ) It ’s a good temperature for staying inside and looking at moving-picture show !
New frond of ostrich fern ( Matteuccia struthiopteris , Zones 3–8 ) unfurl in this exposure , which makes me want to run out and embed a big mass of fern in a location where they ’ll be backlit by the rebel or setting sun . These almost look to be glowing .
These fern fronds are fully expanded , and every detail of their texture is emphasized in black and white . At first glimpse , I thought this was a picture of frost on a windowpane ! It ’s astonishing how the patterns in nature reverberate each other . smutty - and - white photography can be aesthetic and beautiful , and it can also be a tool for garden design . contain photos without color can help you look close at the textures and shapes in your garden and see what is really function without being disquiet by brilliantly colored heyday .

I bed the way this picture of Laura ’s ferns at the end of the time of year draw me in and encourages me to see looker in an unexpected plaza .
Lily of the valley ( Concallaria majalis , Zones 3–8 ) is a classic flora that ’s easy to grow , and the fat scent of those flowers is the core of spring .
A magical wintertime vista , with the warm light of the house beckoning .
